The Leeds Arena site covers an area of over 5 acres, and has been selected as the preferred location by senior councillors in Leeds for the construction of the multi-million pound venue. The council will own the land and the building, the Leeds Arena will be managed by the selected operator SMG.

Work was today due to start on the re-development of an ageing Leeds car park as part of the city’s concert arena scheme. The Woodhouse Lane multi-storey has been earmarked as one of the main car parks that will serve the 13,500-capacity arena when it opens in 2013.

YORKSHIRE entrepreneur Jan Fletcher has begun the latest stage of her legal action against council bosses in Leeds over their handling of the city's concert arena project.
The local authority today said Ms Fletcher's claim was "desperate and vexatious".

Council chiefs today reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring Leeds residents benefit from the training opportunities offered by the city's new arena.
A report to Leeds City Council's executive board today set out the timescale for the £80m scheme in more detail than ever before. The report also says the venue – due to open in early 2013 – will have 24 executive suites and more than 100 concession, merchandise and retail "points of sale".

Work has started at the site of one of Leeds's biggest economic projects.
Hoardings are going up and sewer and drains are being diverted as the site for the new 13,500 capacity Leeds Arena is prepared.
The work at the site is the first building work to take place since the demolition of the Brunswick building in 2009.
