The Leeds Arena site covers an area of over 5 acres, and has been selected as the preferred location by senior councillors in Leeds for the construction of the multi-million pound venue. The council will own the land and the building, the Leeds Arena will be managed by the selected operator SMG. It is anticpated that the venue will have 12,500 seats and be suitable for a wide variety of entertainment and sporting events.

Following the announcement of the proposed Leeds Arena, a growing campaign against the new Leeds development has emerged from concerned councillors in Sheffield (South Yorkshire). Corcens are that the new venue in Leeds would have a negative impact on the existing facilities in Sheffield (the 13,500 capacity ' Sheffield Arena').

Sheffield has: 1 x Supertram, Leeds 0, 1 x Arena, Leeds 0, 2 Football teams, Leeds 1, Sheffield also received an 84 million pound funding package to develop the Robin Hood Airport, ahem, with any regard to the impact this may have on the existing Leeds Bradford International Airport?

If it is 'greener' for Steely travellers to fly from nearer home in Sheffield and Doncaster, then surely it is also greener for 1 x performer to travel the extra 30 miles or so up the M1 and perform in the Leeds Arena rather than a few thousand car journeys ferrying concert go-ers down to Sheffield??
